YOUTH GROUP COOKOUT

On Sunday, August 8, Rob Wagner will be hosting a cookout for the youth at his house from 5 pm till 8 pm.  Rob will take care of the grilling but we are asking that the girls bring something sweet and the boys need to bring some chips to share.  There will be outdoor games galore including volleyball, bocce ball, and corn hole.  We will meet at the church parking lot at 4:45 p.m. and carpool over to Rob’s house.  We will be back to the church between 8 and 8:15 p.m.  Come and invite your friends!

High School Mission Trip

United Methodist Relief Center

Charleston, South Carolina

July 24 – Aug. 1 (Sat-Sun)

This year the high school youth will be participating in a summer mission trip to South Carolina.  On this mission trip we will be joining forces with the Wilmington United Methodist Youth Group.  Together we will travel to The United Methodist Relief Center (UMRC) in Charleston, SC where we will work as volunteers for a week.  We will be staying at the UMRC’s volunteer house for the week.

About UMRC

The United Methodist Relief Center makes long-lasting changes in peoples’ lives by repairing and rehabilitating substandard housing and providing new housing for very low income families. Working to relieve the chronic housing problems of the rural poor in South Carolina, UMRC provides home improvements ranging from installing wheelchair ramps to moving entire houses.

These homes often contain sagging floors and leaking roofs, and some even lack indoor sanitary facilities. UMRC offers hope for a healthy and safe shelter - one of the most basic of human needs.

As a faith-based organization, we emphasize the process of the work as much as the results. Our organization seeks to renew hope and ease depression in the families we serve. We find that by bringing volunteers together with people who need their help, we can revitalize the faith of everyone involved.

COOKBOOK FUNDRAISER

The high school youth group has decided to compile a Church of the Good Shepherd Cookbook.  We hope to collect all of your best recipes and organize them into a church cookbook that can be sold as a fundraiser for the summer mission trip to South Carolina.  So we need everyone to submit their best recipes so that we can create a great cookbook.  We know you all know how to cook because we have sampled many of your great foods at our previous youth events so we just need you to send us those great recipes.  If you are able please email your recipes to Sarah Atkinson at s_feldmeyer@yahoo.com or place them in her church mailbox.
